INTERcultural Architecture

Introducing the Moroccan riad courtyard design to create a private space for family and community gatherings.

INTERactive energy management systems

Understanding where energy comes from and ways to save it, making it easy for homeowners to support their neighborhood grid and help others connect.

INTERdependence on the environment

Creating an outdoor space for personal enjoyment and entertaining to connect residents to the earth and their international guests.

INTEgRated control systems

Allowing residents to interact with their home and set customized thermal and comfort levels to suit their individual needs.

The Inter House Team believes in the importance of creating a natural and sustainable space in which international and local residents may celebrate the diverse cultures of their family and community in the comfort of their own home. We are committed to designing a home that merges tradition and modernism, inspires innovation in affordable middle-class housing, and supports Morocco’s growing interest in renewable energy. Our unique design, the Inter House, highlights intercultural architecture, interactive energy management systems, integrated control systems, and a unique interdependence on the environment.

Making cost-effective decisions such as using local building materials will appeal to low to middle-income housing developers in Morocco, and innovative technologies such as user control and monitoring “smart” systems will allow users to adjust comfort levels and maintain efficient systems as well. Our multidisciplinary and international team will combine architecture and construction techniques and inspire innovation in affordable, comfortable, energy efficient housing.

Our team is composed of students from Colorado School of Mines (Golden, Colorado, U.S.) École National D’Architecture Marrakech (Marrakech, Morocco), and Université Cadi Ayyad (Marrakech, Morocco).
